Substance Abuse - Awareness, detection, treatment and rehabilitation.
The Anti-Drugs commission aims to contribute safer and healthier communities through coordinated efforts to prevent use, treat dependency and reduce production and distribution of alcohol and illicit drugs. Prevention, treatment, social policy making and rehabilitation are the thrust areas of the commission. The department functions through two major campaigns: Gramadeepam and Sajeevam, initiated under CBCI and KCBC.
Awareness Programmes
Gramadeepam
A programme in the name of Grama Deepam is conducted to create and to build a village community free of substance abuse. To attain this objective following means are used: poster competition, awareness class, anti drug awareness rally, etc…
Sajeevam
A Model coordination Project between Church Commissions in a Diocese and between Dioceses at state level for a common cause such as Prevention of Drug Menace. to take up the campaign in the DSSS regional areas and sustain the same with the help of stakeholders and various related departments.
Mukthi Retereat Programme
It is a de- addiction programme which combines spiritual practices with meditation techniques to promote healing, self-awareness, and inner peace .It is organized every two months in Anugraha retreat centre.
A.A Group
As the challenges of alcohol addiction are immense, support systems play a crucial role in recovery. One of the most well-known and widely respected support systems for alcohol addiction is Alcoholics Anonymous (A.A.).It is a worldwide fellowship of individuals who share their experiences, strength, and hope with each other to solve their common problem and help others recover from alcoholism. A.A groups actively function in 7 villages.
Pratheeksha IRCA De Addiction Centre
The Pratheeksha de-addiction centre was established in the year 1995 for the rehabilitation of the alcohol addicts. Due to the reputation of the centre in the field of de-addiction, patients from all other districts of Kerala and patients from Mumbai, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Male approach the centre for treatment. Every year approximately 200 patients undergo treatment and are rehabilitated.
