Environment Conservation Activities - Hand for Nature
The Environment Commission envisions building environment friendly and self reliant villages with prior focus to agriculture, forestation, energy conservation, coastal conservation, waste management and green protocol initiatives. Parish church premises, schools, colleges, diocesan institutions, houses, wastelands and coastal belts are the core areas for implementation. Caritas India, CBCI commission for Ecology, Kerala Forest department, Kerala Social Forestry, Kerala Maritime Board, Suchitwa Mission, Corporation of Trivandrum and Gram Panchayats are the collaborative partners of the commission.
Our Focus Areas
Agriculture
More than 5,000 organic gardens are promoted in the regions; with the support of Haritha Karma Sena (Green Army) and waste management activities are also done.
Waste Management
With the aim of empowering the youth and ensuring their participation in Government Departments Public Service Commission (PSC) coaching classes are being conducted every Saturday.
Coastal Conservation
Every year we encourage and promote 8 villages as “Green villages” to keep their regions clean and green. Plastic waste is collected and handed over to Green army. Every year around 5000 tonnes of plastics are segregated in these regions.
Forestation
4000 fruit saplings have been provided and maintained in 9 Regions. Planted 80 mangrove trees in the Kadinakulam backwater at Pudukurichi village..
