Empowering Women in Fish Vending, Electric Scooters, Ice Boxes, and Uniforms
Empowering women in the fish vending industry can significantly enhance their productivity, financial stability, and social status. Providing them with tools such as electric scooters, ice boxes and uniforms can transform their work experience and impact their livelihoods.Electric scooters helped women fish vendors to travel longer distances in less time, expanding their market reach and also reduce the carbon emission. Ice box preserves and maintains the quality of fish and Uniforms give a more professional appearance, which can attract more customers and boost credibility.These improve the working conditions, financial stability, and social status of women fish vendors.
Empowering Fish Vending Women with Umbrellas
Providing umbrellas to fish vending women can significantly improve their working conditions, enhance their productivity, give them protection from the adverse weather conditions.
Shingarimelam
Shingarimelam paved a way for the 18 women to change in gender roles. Training was given to these women for 6 months then they started to perform in various platforms, performance of shingarimelam helps these women to gain recognition in society and their lives being valued by the family itself.
Catering units
Women received training and equipment to start catering units, leading to the establishment of both group and individual catering businesses in the project area.
Sewing machine and stitching units
As part of a women’s empowerment initiative, around 500women received training in tailoring and were provided with sewing machines and access to loans. This support enabled them to start their own stitching units, fostering economic independence and entrepreneurship within the community.
Programs for Adolescent girls
Street play
Adolescent girls in the project area received training in street play to address critical issues such as environmental problems, gender issues, and the dowry system. The training equipped them with theatrical skills and the ability to convey powerful messages to the community through performance art. These street plays highlighted the urgency of environmental conservation, challenged gender stereotypes, and condemned the dowry system, raising awareness and encouraging dialogue on these important topics
Self-defence
Self-defence training program was successfully implemented with the aim of empowering adolescent girls. The initiative, carried out with the assistance of the Kerala Police, focused on raising comprehensive awareness and providing practical self-defence skills. Hands-on training sessions were conducted where girls learned and practiced self-defense techniques. The training focused on real-life scenarios to ensure practical applicability. This comprehensive self-defense training program not only equipped adolescent girls with crucial skills but also fostered a broader cultural shift towards recognizing and supporting the safety and empowerment of women in the community.
Cycle distribution
Distributing bicycles to adolescent girls is a fantastic initiative to empower them and provide them with safe transportation. The forum rganizes bicycle safety workshops to teach the girls basic riding skills, road safety rules, and maintenance tips. This approach will ensure that the distribution of bicycles not only provides immediate benefits but also contributes to the long-term empowerment and safety of the adolescent girls in the community.
